Here is the latest video on the big health insurers from Brave New Films, this time looking at Wellpoint’s efforts to sue the government of Maine for not allowing them to significantly raise premium rates.

Nothing seems to slow these health insurance companies down, give them pause, fear backlash, etc…

I guess it’s because the corporations aren’t people, just profit-seeking entities. But what about public relations as an engine of profit, as I learned in my (misguided) business school days?

“Would you favor or oppose the government offering everyone a government-administered health insurance plan like Medicare that would compete with private health insurance plans?”

65% percent of respondents said yes.

This Bloomberg article sets the record straight on U.S. VS Canadian health care. Despite rhetoric to the contrary, Canadian public healthcare is quite good by most indicators and better than the U.S. by pretty much all indicators.

I am not convinced that Baucus has simply been trying to find common ground with Republicans in a well-intentioned but wrong-headed attempt to compromise that has backfired.

Just as the province of Saskatchewan in Canada was the first to have Medicare before it spread nationally, some are suggesting that pushing in states with strong movements for single-payer is the most likely path of success.
