Mad As Hell Doctors rally in D.C.

The Mad As Hell Doctors‘ odyssey into the politics of health care reform ended Wednesday with a modest rally in Washington, D.C., and a resolve to continue the quest for single-payer medical coverage.

Six Oregon physicians left Portland Sept. 8 in a custom-painted Winnebago on a cross-country roadshow aimed at building support for a government-sponsored health plan that would cover all Americans in a single giant risk pool.

Sixteen arrests at protest against Aetna

In the 1st of a wave of upcoming protests against health insurers denial of coverage approved by doctors, 16 were arrested at Aetna in New York City on September 29th.

The protests move on to Chicago n the 6th and the across the U.S. on the 15th.

Protesters Rally Against Big Health Insurers

The Wall Street Journal report on the protests across the U.S. at the offices of some of the big insurers like Aetna, UnitedHealth, and Wellpoint

It is a moveon.org series of rallies focused on the public option, supported by labor and others. These coordinated demonstrations are much needed and I’m glad they are happening, but why will Move On not talk about single-payer?

Activists build memorial to honour 44,000 dead from lack of insurance

Activists from Single payer Action and Physicians for a National Health Program have set up a memorial on the National Mall in Washington D.C. for the more than 44,000 Americans who die every year from lack of health insurance. More than 3,000 American flags were planted – the exhibit will be up until September 27th, for those who are in Washington, D.C. (at 15th NW and Constitution)

Single-payer through individual states first?

Just as the province of Saskatchewan in Canada was the first to have Medicare before it spread nationally, some are suggesting that pushing in states with strong movements for single-payer is the most likely path of success. With a comprehensive national plan not even on the agenda at the moment, it’s hard to argue against the idea of focusing on supportive states first and going from there.
