fighting back: the organizations

These are some of the organizations, independent media, and blogs which are tirelessly working to get the word out for universal healthcare in the United States…

Organizations

Single Payer Action
Single Payer Action is a national non-profit founded by activists, for the American people. Seeking to implement a single payer health insurance system in the United States.

Guaranteed Healthcare – California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee
CNA/NNOC is a leading national advocate for universal healthcare reform, through a single-payer style system based on an improved and expanded Medicare for all.  “Guaranteed Healthcare” is their advocacy site for universal health care, including an excellent facts page and a page of stories from people who are uninsured or under-insured.  You can add your own healthcare story as well for others to learn from.

Democracy Now – Healthcare Reform feature page
This is an excellent spot to get an overview of the various issues around healthcare reform that are not getting heard in much of the media.  Who is driving the agenda, what is single payer all about, etc… The one stop for all of the Democracy Now! interviews and features on healthcare in 2009.  Includes interviews with President Obama’s doctor, Representatives Waxman and Kucinich, numerous single-payer advocates, Howard Dean, the National Nurses Organizing Committee, Dr. Quentin Young, British politician Tony Benn, and many more.

Physicians for a National Health Program
A single issue organization advocating a universal, comprehensive single-payer national health program. PNHP has more than 17,000 members and chapters across the United States.

Health Care Now!
Healthcare-NOW! is an education and advocacy organization that addresses the health insurance crisis in the U.S by advocating for the passage of national, single-payer healthcare legislation.  Right now, the National Health Insurance Act (HR 676) is the only legislation that will create a national, single-payer healthcare system.  We see healthcare as a human right, not a privilege tied to the ability to pay.

Canadian Health Coalition
The Canadian Health Coalition is a not-for-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to protecting and expanding Canada’s public health system for the benefit of all Canadians.  The coalition includes organizations representing seniors, women, churches, nurses, health care workers and anti-poverty activists from across Canada.

We investigate abuses of the common trust, whether they occur within or outside the sphere of healthcare. It is our mission to speak truth to power, and to air the many great voices leading the way toward a more just and democratic society.

Mad as Hell Doctors
On September 8, 2009 a group of dedicated Oregon physicians will take the message of Universal Health Care “on the road” in a wrapped and branded Motor Home headed for Washington D.C.  Our cross-country mission:  to stop in big cities and whistle stops alike, conducting pre-booked, local and national media appearances for a curious press.   Every move we make along the way will be recorded on camera and then edited and uploaded to the internet that same day
